Washington, D.C. – June 21, 2017 – Stephen Synnott, CEO of Syntelligent Analytic Solutions, LLC (Syntelligent), and chairman of the Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Council's Government Affairs Committee spent the day on Capitol Hill today, participating in a HUBZone Legislative Fly-In. The purpose of the Fly-In was to provide an education and advocacy event for HUBZone Small Business owners and to serve as an opportunity for Congressmen to learn more about the successes and challenges of the HUBZone program from business managers across the country.

The HUBZone Program is an economic development program established in 1997 to encourage small businesses to locate in and hire employees from economically disadvantaged areas of the U.S. Upon certification from the Small Business Administration, companies participating in the HUBZone program receive competitive advantages in winning federal contracts.

The morning session opened in the Cannon House Office Building with remarks by House Small Business Committee Chair, Steve Chabot (R- OH1). Staffers from Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH1), Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-NY7), Sen. James Risch (R-ID), and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) participated in a bi-partisan congressional panel discussion on HUBZone business success stories and issues. Mr. Synnott cited the positive economic impact his company, Syntelligent, has had in Page County, stimulating the local economy by providing jobs for 24 residents and renting commercial office space.

Following remarks from Rep. John Delaney (R-MD6) in support of the HUBZone program, the HUBZone Council Policy Team panel discussed effective advocacy needed to provide certainty for HUBZone businesses by encouraging capital investment and job creation in the communities that need it most. There were over 40 business leaders participating in the session that provided background information on three bills introduced to help modernize the HUBZone Program and help more communities grow and generate jobs.

After presenting on the Policy Team Panel, Mr. Synnott had individual meetings with staffers in Sen. Kaine's (D-VA), Rep. Goodlatte's (R-VA6) , and Rep. Beyer's (D-VA8) offices. He shared with each that he is proud to own a HUBZone certified company that has created jobs in Page County, Virginia, an area of high unemployment, and that he attributes his revenue growth of 3789% in 5 years to his participation in the HUBZone program. Mr. Synnott is a strong advocate of the HUBZone program and, “… hopes that these meetings will continue to increase awareness of the benefits of the program and the positive impact that it can have in the communities it affects.”
