Syntelligent Continues Support of United Way Day of Caring

Luray, Va. - What do Friday the 13th, Green Hill Cemetery, the eve of the full Harvest Moon, and nine Syntelligent employees have in common? They all combined to be a very productive part of the United Way Northern Shenandoah Valley (UWNSV) Day of Caring in Page County. A total of 29 volunteers donated their time to help with the historic restoration project on East Main Street in Luray.
Hard working volunteers came from 2 corporate teams, Syntelligent in Luray and Navy Federal Credit Union in Winchester, along with 10 local volunteers to scrub dozens of the 1,600 tombstones. Brushing, scrubbing, and washing away lichen, mold, and dirt, each volunteer uncovered the wording and carved artwork of the stones under their hands.
“Seeing the dirt and grime wash away and the names shine forth is very fulfilling,” said Janet Long, Syntelligent Training Specialist. “You feel like you are uncovering history!”
Nadine Pottinga, the UWNSV President, recognizes the value to local non-profits benefitting from the Day of Caring. “A lot of local agencies don’t have the man-power or the resources to get a lot of these projects done on a day to day basis,” Pottinga said. “To have a group come in and be able to do that for them is just a great value to the non-profit and to the community.”
