Syntelligent Attends Virginia Workforce Conference

September 28, 2017

Richmond, VA – September 28, 2017 – Representing Syntelligent Analytic Solutions, LLC (Syntelligent), Kellie Corley, Talent Acquisition Director, and Rose Ann Smythe, Community Affairs Coordinator, attended the 2017 Virginia Chamber Workforce Conference in Richmond. The theme for this year’s event was Veterans: Closing the Workforce Gap, with the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program as one of the primary hosts of the affair. With a strong history of recruiting and hiring veterans, Syntelligent achieved V3 certification in March 2017, and is one of the 430 V3-certified companies that have hired 26,721 veterans since 2012.

The conference focused on sharing best practices to enable employers do a better job recruiting, hiring, and retaining highly-skilled veterans and translating their training to private sector employment. John Newby, the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veteran Services, spoke to a crowd of hundreds of employers, veteran groups, educators, and policy makers about using Virginia’s highly skilled veteran population to fill Virginia‘s workforce demands.

Two panel discussions, highlighting the Business Case for Hiring Veterans and the Importance of the Virginia Workforce Pipeline, tapped into the expertise of successful employers, recruiters, business leadership, educators and military advocates.

Both gubernatorial candidates, Republican Ed Gillespie and Democrat Ralph Northam were given opportunities to address the conference attendees. Gillespie spoke about his plan to improve the conversion of military training into certification, saying, “If you served in the military and you gained a skill, you shouldn’t have to go back to school to get certified for a skill you could teach.” He also stated that he would like to see the number of V3 certified companies double.

Lt. Governor Northam highlighted the successes of getting homeless veterans off the streets, increasing support for returning military veterans, and the growth of the V3 program in the last 4 years. “We have made tremendous efforts and tremendous success with the transitioning program in Virginia.”

Governor McAuliffe addressed the conference during lunch. He began his remarks with a reminder that Virginia is home to one of the largest veteran populations, with more veterans per capita than any other state. “By continuing our focus on creating economic opportunities for veterans and their families, we will remain the best state in the nation for veterans and their families.” Governor McAuliffe then presented fifteen V3 Awards.
